Contribution of APJ Abdul Kalam as a Scientist
- He was the project director of India's first indigenous satellite launch vehicle, the SLV-III, which successfully launched the Rohini satellite in 1980.
- He was the chief architect of India's integrated guided missile development program, which produced several advanced missiles such as Agni and Prithvi, hence known as missile man of India.
- He was the scientific adviser to the defence minister and the principal scientific adviser to the government and played a key role in India's 1998 nuclear tests at Pokhran.
- He developed a low-cost coronary stent, known as the Kalam-Raju stent, in collaboration with cardiologist Dr. B. Soma Raju, which made healthcare more accessible to the poor. He really serves the society and nation, and we Indians always respect them from heart.
- He proposed a national vision for India, called Technology Vision 2020, which aimed to transform India from a developing to a developed country by 2020 through various initiatives in agriculture, technology, health, and education.
Dr. Kalam was also a popular president of India from 2002 to 2007 and was widely respected as the "people's president". He is a personality with zero haters. He inspired millions of Indians, especially the youth, with his humble personality, his passion for learning, and his optimistic outlook. He wrote several books, such as Wings of Fire, Ignited Minds, and India 2020, which reflected his thoughts and ideas on various topics. He also received many awards and honours, both nationally and internationally, for his achievements and services.
Dr. Kalam was a true patriot and a role model for many Indians. He passed away on July 27, 2015, while delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management in Shillong. His legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of the people who admire him and follow his footsteps.
